Located in Umerkot, Sindh, Pakistan, Umerkot Fort, is renowned as Amarkot. The fort has great historic importance because the son of Mughal Emperor Humayun, Akbar the Great was born here.
Constructed by Rana Amar Singh in the 11th century, the fort was under the rule of the Hindu Rajput dynasty. The Hindu Rajput dynasty was also renowned as the Ranas of Umerkot. The administration of the fort was taken over by the Pakistan Government after the creation of Pakistan. Umerkot has great historical significance.
Umar Marvi’s story is also related to Umerkot. Umar, in the fort, who was the ruler of the Umerkot at that time, abducted a young girl, named Marvi. He loved Marvi and wanted to marry her because she was very pretty. When Marvi refused his proposal, Umar imprisoned her in the fort for many years. Marvi became a story of courage for the local people.
