CHITRAL GOL PARK: NATIONAL PARK OF CHITRAL

In Chitral District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, Chitral Gol National Park is located. The park is situated beside the Chitral River, which is at a distance of two hours drive from Chitral town.  The park has three valleys and many glaciers lie in the park through which several springs make their way and form a stream of 18 kilometers. The stream has cold water, which flows towards the east into the Chitral River.

Chitral Gol Park is a home of numerous fauna and flora. The park is densely covered with lush green trees, especially cedar trees. The park is home to several wildlife species and some who are endangered. Chitral National Park has the largest population of Markhor in the world. The park also has small numbers of Siberian Ibex, Ladakh Urial, and Asian Black Bear. The snow leopard has also been seen in the park. Some other animals commonly found in Chitral Gol Park are Tibetan wolf, red fox, yellow-throated marten, and Himalayan otters. The park also has an amazing collection of birds including bearded vulture, Himalayan vulture, golden eagle, demoiselle crane, peregrine falcon, snow partridge, and rock partridge.

In 1979, Gol National Park has declared a wildlife sanctuary but in 1984, it got the title of National Park. The park has an area of 7750 hectares. The surrounding Hindukush Mountains add to the beauty of the park. The park is home to numerous animals.
