FAIRY MEADOWS: AN ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME
Named by German climbers and locally known as Jaguth, Fairy Meadows is a grassland located in Diamer District of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Fairy Meadows serves as the launching point for the trekkers of Nanga Parbat. It is situated at an altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level. You can visit Fairy Meadows by a 15km long trek drive, which starts, from Raikhot Bridge on Karakoram Highway to the Tato village. A 5 kilometers hike is then needed to reach Fairy Meadows. The trail through Fairy Meadows Road is very dangerous and long.
Being one of the favorite tourist spots Fairy Meadow generates 17 million Pakistan Rupees from tourism annually. Fairy Meadows is beautiful lush green plains with the killer mountains that is Nanga Parbat around. The breath-taking view of the meadows and mountain is so captivating that it is the perfect spot for bonfires, camping, trekking, and hiking. Fairy Meadows is a picturesque spot but getting here is not so easy. Since there are no guardrails and the passage is very narrow, it makes it difficult to travel that too at a height of 3,300m. Huge risks prevent many tourists from reaching here. The roads are closed in winter as the snowfall increases the risk rate, so as a preventive measure it is closed in winters and thus it is only accessible in summers. The road to reach Fairy Meadows is declared as the second most deadly highway. Although there are certain difficulties in reaching this place once you see the sight of the meadows you will be spellbound.
