The history of Gwadar is fascinating. Gwadar was a small town and the economy of the city was based on fishing.  In 1954, Gwadar city was recognized as a suitable location for building a deep underwater port. The United States Geological Survey highlighted the strategic value of Gwadar.

The land of Gwadar is very potential for building a deep water port. In 2001, the Government of Pakistan gained possession of Gwadar city and started building the Gwadar Port. A total of 248 million US Dollars was spent on the initial construction of the port. However, the port is unutilized due to many reasons. Gwadar port has the potential of being an asset to Pakistan and its features can also be beneficial for the CPEC.

Gwadar city needs serious administration. The city can prove to be a great asset to Pakistan if utilized properly. Gwadar is a great tourist spot. Some of the hotels near the Gwadar Port are Zaver Pearl Continental Hotel, Sadar resort, and Gwadar Tourist Motel Bakshi Hotel.
