HEAD KHANKI: FUTURE POWER GENERATOR

Situated on the River Chenab in the districts of Gujranwala in the province of Punjab, Pakistan Khanki Headworks is a headwork, which was built in 1889. The Khanki barrage controls the water distribution of over 3 million acres.

The Khanki Headworks are accustomed to transfer water to the Lower Chenab Channel and other distributaries. It took a lot of time to build this barrage, however; the structure of the Head Khanki encountered some miserable engineering defects. It was then decided, to demolish the existing structure and re-build a new one. The construction for the new Khanki barrage was completed in the year 2017 in August.

The total cost for this project was approximately around 21.3 Billion Pakistani Rupees. The Khanki barrage is a source of irrigation to many surrounding fields. The aerial bridge view of Head Khanki Barrage is mesmerizing. One can witness a perfect sunset from the bridge at Khanki Head. The night view of the Khanki barrage is beautiful with lights all around. Some of the hotels near Head Khanki are Akbars Kinara, Faisal Hotel, and Hotel One by Pearl Continental. Hotel One costs 80 US Dollars for a day and night stay.
