About Katpana Desert

Katpana Desert is also widely known as Biama Nakpo, is one of the highest deserts in the world. It is 2,226 meters above sea level and sketches as far as human eyes can see. The desert has huge dunes which are mostly covered with snow. It is a jaw-dropping sight with mountains surrounding the desert itself.

If you are planning to go to Katpana Desert, you need to make sure you are fully equipped as it can be a rough journey. With temperatures as low as -17 degrees Celsius in winters, you need to make sure you have your jackets ready.

Transport and Accommodation

There are two ways to reach the desert: from Kaplu Valley or Skardu. However, the latter is preferred and recommended. Locals and foreigners looking to go on this trip can easily get a bus from Islamabad, although you need to keep in mind you have to switch vehicles to a jeep since there is rough terrain ahead.

The most amazing part about this desert is you can glamp at the night with camping tents provided at a reasonable cost by the nearby locals living there. Food is available, and you can enjoy trout and Yak for dinner.
