ROHTAS FORT: EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE OF MUSLIM MILITARY ARCHITECTURE
Situated close to the city of Jhelum in the Punjab province of Pakistan, Rohtas Fort is a fortress built in the 16th century. In the year 1997, UNESCO listed Rohtas fort as a World Heritage Site because of it being a fine example of the architecture of Muslim military in Central and South Asia.
This fort contains huge walls that were built for defense purposes and many monumental gateways. Sher Shah Suri ordered Raja Todar Mal to construct it. It is at an elevation of about 2,660 feet above sea level and spreads up to an area of 70 hectares and is known to be the largest fort in the subcontinent. It takes a drive of about 2 hours from Islamabad to reach over here and is easily approachable from Dina.
