SACRED ROCKS OF HUNZA: CULTURAL HERITAGE
Situated on the Karakoram Highway in the middle of Attabad Lake and Ganish village in the alluring Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan, The Sacred Rocks of Hunza is a cultural heritage and has great historical importance. It is located on top of a peak which is towards the east of Hunza River at a place called Haldeikish.
This rock is one of the highlights of Hunza. It is about 30 feet tall and covers an area of about 200 yards. The rock consists of two parts, the upper part, and the lower part and they both contain carvings from ancient times such as animals, inscriptions, and other pictures. In ancient times, this place used to be home to Buddhists and they are the ones who carved the lower part of the rock with images of an animal called Ibex in different circumstances and some Horned-Human playing with it which tells us about the significance of Ibex in Buddhist culture whereas the upper portion contains inscriptions in various languages such as Brahmi, Sarada, Sogdian, and Kharoshti.
