TOMB OF SHAH RUKN-E-ALAM: SOUL REFRESHING AND AESTHETIC TOMB
The city of Multan, in the Punjab province of Pakistan, is known for its majestic tombs and one of them is the tomb of Shah Rukn-e-Alam. Shah Rukn-e-Alam’s real name was Sheikh Rukn-ud-Din Abul Fateh and he was given the title of Shah Rukn-e-Alam which means “Pillar of the World”. He was a great Sufi saint and the grandson of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya. At first, Shah Rukn-e-Alam was buried in the tomb of his grandfather but later when Muhammad Bin Tughluq presented this beautiful tomb to the offsprings of Shah Rukn-e-Alam, his remains were shifted over here.
This shrine is the foremost exemplar of Tughluq architecture. It is embellished with glazed tiles, red bricks, and blue tiles. It has a wooden sculptured mihrab. Over 100,000 people come over here from all over the country at the urs of Shah Rukn-e-Alam and pay a tribute to him. The qawali performances over here are highly enjoyed by the tourists and fill the soul with serenity. This place is highly recommended for people who are in search of solace.
