The Khyber Pass is a mountain pass in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan. It is situated in Pakistan, Afghanistan border. This pass connects the town of Landi Kotal to the Valley of Peshawar at Jamrud. It is present at an elevation of 1,070 meters above sea level. This pass is the main route between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Pass provides an important trade route between Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. The summit of the Khyber Pass is 5 kilometers inside Pakistan at Landi Kotal.
Whereas, its lowest point is 0.46 kilometers which are at Jamrud in the valley of Peshawar. Also, it is an important part of Asian Highway 1 (AH1).
History of Khyber Pass:
This pass is an important historical route. It served as an integral part of the ancient Silk route. Therefore it has importance as a cultural, economic, and geopolitical trade route.
The local people around the pass are generally from the Afridi and Shinwar tribes of Pashtuns. The area between the pass is known as the tribal lands.
